K. Kavitha Bids Emotional Farewell from Telangana Legislative Council

K. Kavitha's Resignation Announcement

K. Kavitha, a Member of the Legislative Council from Telangana, delivered a heartfelt farewell speech on Monday, formally announcing her resignation from the Telangana Legislative Council and her decision to part ways with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). During her speech, she became emotional while reflecting on her extensive public and political journey, as well as the circumstances surrounding her suspension from the party. She shared that she was inspired by KCR and Professor Jayashankar to join the Telangana movement in 2006, focusing on empowering women and youth, preserving Telangana's culture, documenting its history, and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities and local employment.

Political Journey and Challenges

Kavitha clarified that entering politics was not her initial intention, but after careful consideration, she accepted the parliamentary ticket for Nizamabad offered by the BRS. Following the formation of Telangana, she continued to address key issues and development projects, including the long-awaited completion of the Peddapalli-Nizamabad railway line. Despite her contributions, she expressed that her freedom of expression within the party was stifled, yet she remained committed to supporting workers, women, and the underprivileged with courage and conviction.

Concerns Over Party Decisions

She pointed out that despite KCR's opposition to outsourcing, the contract system expanded after the state's formation. When she questioned these decisions, the party adopted a hostile attitude towards her, ultimately leading to her expulsion under dubious circumstances. Kavitha raised concerns about the removal of protest sites, the arrest of farmers, corruption in major public projects, and substandard construction. She felt marginalized for speaking the truth, while Telangana activists were overlooked, denied pensions, and even the veterans of the 1969 movement were not recognized. She further noted that the core promises of 'water, funds, and appointments' had been consistently undermined, with no action taken despite repeated exposure of corruption. Additionally, her requests regarding the Bodhan sugar factory were ignored for over a decade.

Critique of Party's Direction

As KCR's daughter, she mentioned having the courage to question him directly. While she could accept the non-implementation of one or two requests, the repeated neglect of serious injustices was unacceptable. She opposed the decision to change the party's name from TRS to BRS, arguing that it reflected a shift in focus towards national expansion at the expense of Telangana's interests.
