Political Developments in Tamil Nadu

On Tuesday, K. Annamalai, the former president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, made a significant claim that has stirred political discussions. He stated that DMK MP T.R. Balu has retracted a defamation lawsuit amounting to ₹100 crores that was filed against him. Following this development, Annamalai firmly reiterated his stance on the allegations of corruption he has made against the ruling party and its leaders.

This legal dispute is linked to Annamalai's well-known 'DMK Files' campaign, where he disclosed details about the alleged assets of senior leaders of the ruling party.

In a post on X, Annamalai explained that Balu had initiated the defamation case after he revealed information regarding the alleged properties and companies owned by Balu and his family through his 'DMK Files' campaign.

Annamalai noted, 'Thiru T.R. Balu had filed a defamation suit against me for publishing information about his and his family's assets/companies through the 'DMK Files' and sought ₹100 crores in damages.'

The former state BJP chief mentioned that after a phase of hearings, he personally contested the case and cross-examined Balu. He emphasized that the details of the proceedings were already in the public domain.

He further alleged that during the cross-examination, Balu made baseless 'derogatory remarks' against him in court, prompting Annamalai to file a separate case against the DMK MP regarding those statements.

Annamalai stated, 'Today, Thiru T.R. Balu has voluntarily decided to withdraw the defamation case he filed against me. It was his choice whether to pursue it further, not mine.'

Reiterating his position, Annamalai affirmed that he stands by every comment made against the previous DMK government and certain members of the ruling party.

He expressed gratitude to his legal team, including lawyers Paul K. Nagaraj and Kumaraguru, for their support during the hearings, concluding his post with the remark, 'Truth always prevails!'

This development comes shortly after Annamalai announced that his newly launched 'We the Leaders' movement is on track to transform into a political party by July. He aims to establish the organization as a people-centric political alternative in Tamil Nadu, targeting 5 million members and focusing on issues like governance, corruption, and the rising drug problem in the state.
