Request for Safe Access to Kedarnath Temple

Guna. Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Minister for Communications and Development of the Northeast, has reached out to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, requesting the safe removal of hazardous and dilapidated rocks along the main route leading to the ancient Kedarnath Temple in Bamori, Guna district. This action aims to reopen the temple for devotees. The pedestrian path to this renowned Shiva temple has been closed for the past year and a half due to rock slides. The temple is not only a significant place of worship for the residents of Guna district but also for people from neighboring areas. However, the lack of an alternative route has kept the temple gates shut for over a year.

In his letter to the Chief Minister, Scindia emphasized that this route has been inaccessible to the public for an extended period. The precarious condition of the massive rocks poses a constant risk of accidents, jeopardizing the safety of devotees and threatening the temple's structural integrity.

GSI Declares Area as 'Highly Sensitive'

Scindia's correspondence also highlighted that a joint survey conducted by the Guna administration and the Geological Survey of India (GSI) previously classified the area as 'highly sensitive (Category IV)'. The survey report recommended the immediate closure of the route and the installation of safety nets (rock catchers) to prevent further rock falls.

Assistance Requested from SDRF

Additionally, Scindia noted in his letter that the district administration cannot manage this task alone. In this context, the District Collector had already sent a letter to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on July 11, 2025, seeking technical and resource-related assistance.

Prioritizing Local Faith and Devotee Safety

In his appeal to the Chief Minister, Scindia urged for the safe removal of the rocks and the prompt establishment of a secure and accessible route to the temple. This would not only ensure the safety of the devotees but also honor the local religious sentiments and public emotions.
