Court Delivers Verdict in POCSO Case

Bhubaneswar: A man has been sentenced to a decade of rigorous imprisonment by a POCSO court in Bhubaneswar for the rape of a minor girl in 2022, as confirmed by court officials.

Saroj Kumar Sahoo, the Ad hoc Additional Sessions Judge at the POCSO court, also levied a fine of Rs 5,000 on the perpetrator, identified as Sanatan Nayak, according to Special Public Prosecutor Rajib Sasmal.

In addition, the court has ordered the District Legal Services Authority of Khurda to provide Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the victim, who was just 15 years old at the time of the crime.

The judgment was reached after the court reviewed testimonies from 11 witnesses and analyzed 57 pieces of evidence, Sasmal noted.

The prosecution's case revealed that Nayak abducted the girl from her home on the evening of March 12, 2022.

Following a complaint filed by the girl's family at the Airport police station, authorities successfully rescued her and apprehended Nayak, charging him under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act.
