Delhi Police to File Chargesheet in Musician's Murder Case
New Delhi: Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, announced on Tuesday that the Delhi Police has committed to filing a chargesheet within the next eight to nine days regarding the murder of C Vikram Singh, a musician from Manipur, in South Delhi.
Rijiju emphasized the need for the harshest penalties for those responsible for this crime.
He mentioned that he has been in contact with senior officers from the Delhi Police, particularly those focused on issues affecting individuals from the Northeast, and is personally overseeing the investigation.
The police assured him that they are dedicated to constructing a robust case against the suspects, he stated during a press briefing.
Singh, aged 54, had been residing in Kilokari village for several years and was reportedly attacked by a group of delivery personnel and dhaba workers early Monday morning after he confronted them about their loud behavior and drinking outside his residence.
Authorities have detained seven individuals and apprehended a minor in connection with the incident.
Rijiju noted that the suspects originate from various states, including Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar.
Describing Singh's death as a tragic event, the minister praised the police for their prompt action in apprehending the suspects who had fled the scene.
He reiterated that the most severe punishment should be imposed on the offenders.
Rijiju also mentioned that police officials are in communication with Singh's family and arrangements are being made to transport his body back to Imphal on Wednesday.
When asked about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's concerns regarding the safety of Northeastern individuals, Rijiju urged against politicizing the tragedy.
He stated, "This is not the time for political discussions. We must focus on immediate action following such incidents. This is not a political issue."
Rijiju expressed that the entire Northeastern community is grieving due to Singh's connection to Manipur, but emphasized that he is an Indian citizen, and the loss of any life should concern everyone.
He added that a specialized unit within the Delhi Police is addressing issues related to the Northeast and has established protocols for rapid police responses in similar situations.
According to police reports, the Sunlight Colony police station received an emergency call regarding the assault on Singh. Initial investigations revealed that Singh, a member of the Meitei community, had objected to a group of men causing a disturbance outside his home.
He sustained injuries from the assault and was rushed to Holy Family Hospital by his son, Yaiphaba, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The suspects have been identified as Bharat Kumar (19), Pramod (26), Ramzan Khan (22), Deepanshu (21), Mohan Vishwakarma (32), Vijay (36), Mannu (26), and a juvenile, all of whom are employed at various dhabas and food stalls.
