Jurgen Klopp Eyes Rodri as Key Signing for Real Madrid
Klopp's Ambitions at Real Madrid
Jurgen Klopp is reportedly on the verge of fulfilling his ambitions this summer, as Real Madrid is set to target Manchester City midfielder Rodri. The German manager, who is currently the frontrunner to take over at Los Blancos, has identified Rodri as a crucial addition to his squad if appointed.
Following a defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup, Real Madrid parted ways with Xabi Alonso in January. Alvaro Arbeloa stepped in as the interim manager, but rumors suggest he will not continue beyond this season. Klopp is among several high-profile candidates, including Unai Emery, Jose Mourinho, and Zinedine Zidane, with bookmakers favoring him for the position.
Transfer Plans Under Klopp
Spanish reports indicate that Klopp has already outlined plans for the squad, including four players leaving and four new signings. Expected departures include Fran Garcia, Dani Ceballos, Franco Mastantuono, and David Alaba. In contrast, Klopp has expressed interest in bringing in Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck, PSG's Vitinha, Juventus' Kenan Yildiz, and Rodri.
At nearly 30 years old, Rodri is reportedly open to returning to Spain. Despite his ties to Atlético Madrid, he is said to be willing to join Real Madrid, especially with the prospect of a starting position and a long-term vision under Klopp. His current contract with Manchester City extends until 2027, but with no intention to renew, the Premier League champions may need to consider a transfer.
Klopp's Future and Madrid's Interest
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has noted that Klopp is well-regarded within the Madrid board, although he emphasized that no formal negotiations have taken place yet. Klopp has previously mentioned his desire for a break from management after his tenure at Liverpool, while still being involved with the Red Bull group.
Nevertheless, the likelihood of Klopp taking the helm at the Bernabéu has increased, with Rodri's name becoming pivotal in his vision for revamping Madrid's midfield.
