Arrest of Junior Hockey Coach in Haryana

In Rewari district, Haryana, a junior hockey coach has been taken into custody following allegations of raping a minor girl. Authorities reported on Saturday that the victim became pregnant and underwent an abortion earlier this week.

This incident comes to light amid another case where a 17-year-old shooter from Faridabad accused a senior member of the Indian coaching staff of sexual harassment during a national championship.

According to police, a 12th-grade student from a village in Rewari filed a complaint at the local police station on Friday. The athlete claimed that approximately four months ago, a junior coach, whom she had known for three years, assaulted her at the stadium.

The victim revealed that the assault led to her pregnancy, and she had a miscarriage on January 5. Her family took her to the hospital after her health deteriorated.

The Rewari police confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Friday under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A police spokesperson stated on Saturday that the accused junior coach has been arrested and presented in a local court, where he was remanded to two days of police custody for further questioning.
