Soorma Concludes League with a Victory

JSW Soorma Hockey Club wrapped up their Women's Hockey India League 2025-26 season with an impressive 3-2 win against the Shrachi Bengal Tigers at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi on Tuesday, according to a recent announcement.

Despite the match being inconsequential for standings, as Soorma was already out of the finals race and the Tigers secured their spot, both teams showcased remarkable intensity, providing an exciting contest that captivated the audience until the last moments.

Soorma Takes Early Control

From the outset, Soorma displayed aggressive play, putting pressure on the Tigers. Olivia Shannon was pivotal in their offensive efforts, nearly creating a scoring chance in the fourth minute, although the score remained 0-0. Captain Salima Tete came close with a shot that just missed the target, and Shannon tested Tigers' goalkeeper Jennifer Rizzo in the eighth minute, but her attempt was saved.

Soorma finally broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Sonam scored from close range, giving them a 1-0 lead. They maintained dominance throughout the first quarter, heading into the break with a well-deserved advantage.

Tigers Respond in the Second Quarter

The Tigers had a brief moment of possession at the start of the second quarter, but Soorma's Shannon led another counter-attack, which ultimately fell short. Soorma earned the first penalty corner of the match in the 26th minute, followed by another, but the Tigers' defense held strong.

The Tigers managed to secure their first penalty corner shortly after, which was effectively defended by Soorma. Lalremsiami attempted a shot on goal, but goalkeeper Nidhi made a crucial save. The Tigers pressed for an equalizer towards the end of the quarter, yet Soorma's defense kept them at bay, maintaining their 1-0 lead at halftime.

Tigers Equalize in the Third Quarter

In the third quarter, the Tigers aimed to relieve pressure by controlling possession, while Soorma continued their high pressing game. Victoria Manuele made a notable run in the 35th minute, earning a penalty corner, but it did not yield results. Another penalty corner for the Tigers in the 37th minute proved successful as league top-scorer Agustina Gorzelany scored, leveling the match at 1-1.

The game remained evenly matched, and Soorma nearly regained the lead in the closing moments of the quarter when Maria Granatto's shot went just wide, leaving the score tied as they entered the final period.

Soorma Clinches Victory in the Final Quarter

Soorma quickly made their mark in the fourth quarter, winning a penalty corner just 21 seconds after the restart, but failed to convert. They earned another chance in the 49th minute, and this time, Vaishnavi executed the stop perfectly, allowing Squibb to score and put Soorma ahead 2-1.

The Tigers responded with a penalty corner three minutes later but could not capitalize. Shortly after, Soorma struck again from another penalty corner, with Maria Granatto finishing a well-coordinated team effort in the 53rd minute, extending their lead to 3-1. A referral by the Tigers was unsuccessful, and the goal stood.

The Tigers, however, did not back down and earned a late penalty corner with just over a minute left, which Lalremsiami converted on the rebound, narrowing the score to 3-2. They pushed for an equalizer in the final seconds, but Soorma's defense held strong, securing their second win of the season.
