JSW Indian Open 2027 Set to Make Waves in Mumbai
JSW Indian Open 2027 Returns to Mumbai
The Indian Open is scheduled to return for its third edition from February 9 to 13, 2027, at the Mumbai Gymkhana. This event will showcase top Indian and international squash players competing over five days. As part of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour, the tournament is making a comeback at a time when Indian squash is experiencing significant growth, with players achieving notable success on the global stage and a burgeoning pool of talent across various categories.
Historic Milestone for Women’s Squash
A major highlight of the 2027 tournament will be the elevation of the women's competition to Silver level on the PSA Tour, marking India's first-ever women’s Silver-level event. Meanwhile, the men's competition will be classified at the Copper level. This upgrade will allow Indian players to compete in a higher-tier tournament domestically, face tougher international competitors, and gain invaluable experience against a more extensive field.
Building Global Competitive Pathways
Indian squash has seen remarkable advancements in recent years, with a new wave of players making their mark internationally. The ascent of Anahat Singh in the world rankings, along with the achievements of players like Abhay Singh, Ramit Tandon, Veer Chotrani, and Velavan Senthilkumar, showcases the increasing depth of talent in India and its potential for ongoing success on the world stage. This progress was evident during the Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, where India secured five squash medals, including two silver and three bronze. Anahat Singh earned silver in the women's singles, while the country also excelled in team and doubles events. These accomplishments highlight the strides Indian squash has made and the capability of its athletes to compete with top players across Asia.
Regular competitive tournaments are essential for translating this potential into consistent performance. Events like the JSW Indian Open provide Indian athletes with frequent opportunities to face international opponents, allowing them to assess their skills, gain match experience, and develop the necessary competencies to advance in their careers. With squash set to debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, such platforms will be increasingly vital for athlete development and enhancing India’s competitive landscape.
