Allegations Against the State Government
The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda, accused the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government on June 13 of failing to convert significant central assistance into developmental projects. He attributed the delays in crucial infrastructure, healthcare, and industrial initiatives to a lack of administrative capability and foresight. Speaking at a press conference in Shimla, Nadda emphasized that the government led by Narendra Modi has provided extensive support to the state in recent years, yet the state administration has not effectively utilized these resources.
Highlighting BJP's Achievements
Nadda underscored the accomplishments of the BJP-led NDA government during Modi's tenure, noting that the people of Himachal Pradesh have consistently endorsed the party's vision for development by electing BJP candidates in all four Lok Sabha seats across three consecutive general elections. He referenced the recent results of local body and panchayat elections, suggesting they reflect the growing discontent among the public towards the Congress government.
Financial Assistance Details
He elaborated on the financial aid received by Himachal Pradesh from the center, which includes ₹2,381 crores under the Special Assistance Scheme, ₹2,006 crores from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), and ₹2,150 crores for externally aided projects during 2024-25. Nadda also mentioned ongoing railway projects funded by a record ₹2,911 crores and national highways costing over ₹40,000 crores.
Concerns Over Healthcare Infrastructure
Discussing healthcare infrastructure, Nadda claimed that despite receiving substantial funds, the state government has not advanced projects adequately. He pointed out that out of fifteen critical care blocks approved under the Prime Minister's Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), only one has been completed. Similarly, only one of the twelve integrated public health laboratories is operational, and none of the 73 sanctioned block public health units have been finished.
