Josh Inglis to Miss Part of IPL 2026 Season Due to Wedding
Josh Inglis' IPL Commitment Affected by Wedding
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis, recently acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹8.6 crore during the IPL 2026 mini-auction, has announced that he will be unavailable for a portion of the upcoming season due to his wedding scheduled for early April. The IPL is set to run from March 26 to May 31, according to reports.
Unexpected Auction Outcome
Inglis expressed his surprise at being selected in the auction, given his limited availability. Initially, he did not expect to be picked and was taken aback when he went unsold at first. He later discovered he had been bought after waking up to several messages.
"I watched a lot of the IPL auction and realized I was lower in the priority list. With my wedding in early April, I didn't anticipate being selected. When I saw my name go unsold, I thought, 'Alright, I’m going to bed.' I needed to prepare for the Ashes and woke up to the news of my selection," Inglis shared with ABC Sport.
Bidding Competition and Reunion with Justin Langer
Despite his previous coach Ricky Ponting's comments about Inglis' limited availability, a bidding war ensued during the auction. Ultimately, Lucknow Super Giants outbid Sunrisers Hyderabad, bringing Inglis together with Justin Langer, with whom he previously collaborated at Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
Inglis' Performance in IPL and T20
Inglis made a notable debut in the IPL, playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS) where he scored 278 runs in 11 innings, averaging 30.88 with a strike rate of 162.57. His standout performance included a crucial 73 runs off 42 balls against the Mumbai Indians, led by Jasprit Bumrah, in Jaipur.
In total, Inglis has accumulated 3,853 runs across 152 T20 innings, maintaining an average of 29.86 and a strike rate just under 150.
