Joseph Vijay's Political Aspirations

Actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar has been announced as the chief ministerial candidate for the Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections. This decision was made public by his party on Friday. Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy Vijay, was nominated as the CM candidate during a special resolution passed at the party's executive committee meeting.

Vijay stated that his party will not form alliances, either directly or indirectly, with the DMK or BJP for the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections. He expressed skepticism about the BJP's prospects in Tamil Nadu, asserting that they would not gain traction in the state. He emphasized that unlike the DMK or AIADMK, which may ally with the BJP for political gain, TVK stands apart. According to the resolution, the party aims to lead a coalition of parties that are not aligned with the DMK, AIADMK, or BJP.

In a critical stance against the BJP, Vijay accused the ruling party at the center of engaging in cheap politics and attempting to divide people along communal lines for political advantage. He remarked that such tactics may work elsewhere but will not succeed in Tamil Nadu, a state deeply rooted in social justice, harmony, and brotherhood. He added, "The BJP will not succeed here by insulting Periyar, Anna, and other great leaders of the state." TVK General Secretary N. Anand mentioned that Vijay will embark on a statewide tour starting in September.
