Jos Buttler Remains Hopeful for England Selection Despite T20 World Cup Struggles
Buttler's Aspirations for Upcoming Series
Veteran England batter Jos Buttler has expressed optimism about being included in the squad for the upcoming white-ball series against India in July. However, he also recognizes the uncertainty surrounding his selection following a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, where he managed to score just 87 runs across eight innings. England, under the leadership of Harry Brook, exited the tournament after a semifinal loss to India, the eventual champions.
Uncertainty About Selection
During his podcast 'For the Love of Cricket', Buttler shared his thoughts on the matter, stating, "I hope so. I don't know." He acknowledged his lackluster performance in the T20 World Cup but remains hopeful about returning to form. "I had a poor tournament, which is disappointing, but I've been playing some of the best cricket of my career in recent years, so hopefully I can get back to playing my best," he added.
Ambitions and Acceptance
Buttler emphasized his desire to continue representing England, yet he understands that the decision is beyond his control. "I certainly have ambitions to continue playing for England, but no longer being a captain, I'm not a selector, so whatever will be, will be. We will see," he remarked.
Reflections on World Cup Performance
Reflecting on his struggles during the T20 World Cup, Buttler admitted he is unsure about the reasons behind his poor form. He stated, "There are elements to what went wrong that I don't really know exactly. Despite my best intentions and hard work, it just didn't work out, and sometimes that's okay. It wasn't for a lack of effort; it just didn't quite happen."
