As Jorhat district prepares for the upcoming assembly elections, polling and presiding officers have been dispatched to their respective stations. With over 711,000 voters expected to participate, security has been heightened to ensure a peaceful voting process. Key electoral battles are anticipated, including contests involving prominent candidates from various parties. Polling Preparations in Jorhat District

Polling and presiding officers, along with security personnel, were dispatched to their respective polling stations


Jorhat, April 8: As the state gears up for elections on Thursday, polling and presiding officers, along with security forces, were sent to their designated polling locations throughout Jorhat district on Wednesday.


A total of 711,747 voters will cast their ballots to determine the outcome for candidates in four Assembly constituencies: 100 No. Jorhat, 99 No. Teok, 101 No. Mariani, and 102 No. Titabor.


District Election Officer Jay Shivani expressed assurance regarding the readiness of the polling staff.


“I trust that officials will adhere to all protocols. Should any issues arise, they are advised to contact their sector officers for assistance,” he stated.


The district features 886 polling stations, with 182 located in Jorhat, 249 in Teok, 210 in Mariani, and 245 in Titabor.


Among these, 90 polling stations will be exclusively managed by women, comprising 49 in Jorhat, 14 in Teok, 13 in Mariani, and 14 in Titabor.


“We are not implementing any new regulations; we are adhering to established procedures. We have collected the EVMs, verified all necessary documents, and are heading to our polling stations. Each team consists of three polling officers and one security personnel,” a presiding officer remarked.


The Jorhat constituencies are expected to feature significant electoral battles. In Jorhat, Gaurav Gogoi, president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and Leader of Opposition, is competing against Hitendra Nath Goswami, the former Speaker of the Assam Assembly and a BJP candidate.


In Mariani, Gyanashree Bora from Raijor Dal is contesting against BJP’s Rupjyoti Kurmi.


In Teok, Congress candidate Pallabi Saikia Gogoi is up against AGP’s Bikash Saikia, while in Titabor, a multi-cornered contest involves BJP’s Dhiraj Gowala, Congress candidate Pran Kurmi, and Independent candidate Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah.


To ensure a smooth polling process, security measures have been heightened, with personnel from both Assam Police and Manipur Police deployed at all polling stations.
