Border Pillar Survey Begins in West Kameng District

Itanagar, April 1: The West Kameng district administration has launched joint survey operations aimed at establishing border pillars along the inter-State boundary with Assam.

This initiative is being executed in collaboration with officials from various departments, including the Border Protection and Development Department of Assam, the Border Affairs Department of Arunachal Pradesh, the Arunachal Pradesh Space Application Centre, and the Survey of India.

The survey commenced in the Chopai region, located within the Kamengbari-Doimara Circle, which borders Assam's Sonitpur district.

Dr. Dilip Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of West Kameng, oversaw the operations and assessed the progress on-site. He was joined by several district officials, including the Additional Deputy Commissioners from Singchung and Bomdila, the Deputy Superintendent of Police from Bomdila, the District Land Revenue and Settlement Officer, the Divisional Forest Officer from Khellong Division, and engineers from the Public Works Department.

The purpose of this joint effort is to ensure accurate demarcation of the inter-State boundary and to enhance cooperation between the two States, according to officials.

It is noteworthy that the first border pillar between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam was established at Seijosa in the Pakke Kessang district on February 22 of this year, marking a significant step towards addressing the long-standing boundary dispute.

Both States have welcomed this development as a testament to the spirit of the Namsai Declaration, which was signed on July 15, 2022, by the Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. This declaration aims to resolve the decades-old inter-State border conflict and promote lasting peace, administrative clarity, and stability in the border regions.
