Jofra Archer's Comeback to the England Squad

In a significant update from England, star fast bowler Jofra Archer has been included in the squad for the upcoming second Test against India, scheduled to take place in Birmingham from July 2 to 6. This marks Archer's return to the England team after a four-year absence.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) shared this announcement via Twitter, highlighting a pivotal moment in the ongoing Test series. Notably, Archer has not replaced any existing player; instead, he has been added as the 15th member of the squad and will be available for selection in the second Test. He will join the pace attack alongside Sam Cook, Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, and Josh Tongue.

"It felt alright today. I've been playing for a year, and bowling for two years, including the build-up, so everything is fine.”

Archer also mentioned,

“Now it's a different challenge, because I know my body can hold up to it. The mental part of the game [will be tough]. Over the next couple of days, I'm going to have to battle a bit with it, but it's all good. It's a new challenge, and I'll keep trucking along.”

Returning to the Test arena after such a long time has not been easy for Archer, who has faced numerous challenges while recovering from injuries. Initially, he dealt with a recurring elbow issue, followed by a stress fracture in his back, which raised doubts about his return.

Recently, Archer made his comeback in the County Championship, playing for Sussex against Durham, where he bowled 18 overs and secured 1 wicket for 32 runs in a match that ended in a draw.

Having made his Test debut during the 2019 Ashes series against Australia, Archer has participated in 13 Test matches, claiming 42 wickets, including three five-wicket hauls. It will be intriguing to see if he gets a chance to play in the second Test and who he might replace in the starting lineup.
