Students at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have organized a protest against Vice Chancellor Shanti Shri Dhulipudi Pandit following his controversial remarks regarding UGC regulations and caste. The All India Students Association (AISA) condemned his statements as casteist and demanded his resignation. The protest was sparked by reports of violence against student demonstrators by ABVP members. AISA emphasized the need to uphold Ambedkar's legacy in the face of rising Manuist forces and called for the implementation of UGC regulations aimed at combating caste discrimination. The situation escalated as ABVP members allegedly resorted to violence against protesting students, leading to a strong show of solidarity among the student body.

JNU Students Protest Against Vice Chancellor's Controversial Remarks

Students Rally Against Vice Chancellor's Comments

On Tuesday, numerous students from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) staged a protest against Vice Chancellor Shanti Shri Dhulipudi Pandit. The Vice Chancellor had labeled UGC regulations as irrational and unnecessary, claiming that his statements contained casteist remarks. This demonstration followed reports of attacks on student protesters by members of the ABVP late at night. The All India Students Association (AISA) issued a statement asserting that as forces promoting Manuism unite against social justice, the legacy of Ambedkar must prevail!

AISA Condemns Casteist Remarks

Referring to the VC's comments, AISA stated that the JNU Vice Chancellor, who had previously expressed pride in his association with the RSS, confirmed his party line by dismissing UGC regulations and suggesting that Dalits were addicted to 'permanent victimhood.' AISA condemned these deeply Brahminical statements and demanded a public apology from the JNU VC along with an immediate resignation.

Students Demand Implementation of UGC Regulations

Students advocating for the enforcement of UGC regulations aimed at eliminating caste-based discrimination had organized a 'Samta March' on February 22. AISA reported that thousands of JNU students participated in the march to reject the VC's overt casteism and called for his resignation.

Allegations of Violence by ABVP

The student body further accused ABVP members of violence. After failing to disrupt JNU's intentions, the organization resorted to its old tactics of aggression! When hundreds of JNU students gathered at the SL-SIS lawn, ABVP violently attacked them late at night. Notorious campus goons from ABVP hurled bricks and stones at the location where JNUSU office bearers and former JNUSU president were protesting against their wrongful registration alongside hundreds of JNU students. AISA expressed solidarity with the students and the ousted office bearers, stating, 'AISA stands united with JNU students, ousted JNUSU office bearers, and former JNUSU president in their fight against Brahminical forces on campus, as well as against attempts to strip JNU students of their right to democratic representation.'
