Political Tensions Rise Ahead of Bihar Elections

Jitan Ram Manjhi, the leader of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and a central minister, targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday after Gandhi was spotted fishing during his visit to Begusarai. Manjhi dismissed this act as mere theatrics. Referring to Gandhi's recent actions, he remarked, "What else can he do? He criticizes India on foreign soil, insults Prime Minister Modi's mother, and refers to Chhath as a drama. What can a person like that do but fish?"

Criticism of Gandhi's Political Stunt

Manjhi's comments came in response to images of Gandhi engaging with local fishermen and attempting to fish himself as part of his campaign in the lead-up to the Bihar Assembly elections. Both the BJP and HAM, along with their allies, have criticized Gandhi for resorting to what they term 'dramatic politics,' accusing him of imitating Prime Minister Modi's grassroots engagement.

Election Campaign Intensifies

As the Bihar Assembly elections approach, political rhetoric between the NDA and opposition parties has intensified. Voting for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly is scheduled for November 6 and 11, with counting set for November 14. Meanwhile, Bhojpuri singer-actor and BJP MP Pawan Singh expressed his preference to stay away from political commentary, identifying more as an artist and 'son of the people of Bihar.' He highlighted the 'clear difference' in development over the past fifteen years in Bihar.

Gandhi's Fishing Experience

Singh's remarks followed Gandhi's participation in traditional fishing practices with local fishermen. During his campaign, the Congress leader jumped into a pond and engaged in fishing using his hands and a net, showcasing a hands-on approach ahead of the two-phase assembly elections starting on November 6.
