Jharkhand High Court Grants Relief to Chief Minister Hemant Soren in ED Case

Court Decision on Hemant Soren's Appearance

On Wednesday, the Jharkhand High Court provided a significant ruling by allowing Chief Minister Hemant Soren to avoid appearing in person before an MP-MLA court regarding a case linked to Enforcement Directorate summons violations.

The central investigative agency had initiated a complaint against Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, for not responding to multiple summons related to an alleged land scam.

According to the Enforcement Directorate, Soren received ten summons but only attended two of the scheduled appearances.

As a result, the MP-MLA court in Ranchi mandated that Soren must be present at each hearing due to his non-compliance with the summons.

Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary, while addressing a petition that contested the court's requirement for Soren's personal appearance, ruled in favor of the Chief Minister, allowing him to be represented by legal counsel instead.

Previously, in December 2024, the High Court had issued a temporary order exempting Soren from attending the hearings, but this order was revoked on November 25, requiring his physical presence.
