Jharkhand Government Imposes Restrictions Ahead of Monsoon Session

Restrictions in Place for Upcoming Monsoon Session

Ranchi, August 5 - The Jharkhand government has enforced a prohibition order under Section 163 of the Indian National Security Code (BNSC) within a 750-meter radius of the assembly, ahead of the monsoon session set to commence on Thursday. This information was confirmed by an official on Wednesday.

The prohibition will be effective from 8 AM on August 6 until 10 PM on August 12. It will restrict gatherings of five or more individuals, as well as processions, marches, and demonstrations. Several student organizations have announced plans to surround the assembly on August 7 and 10 in protest against alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations.

For security reasons, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ranchi has utilized the powers granted under Section 163 of the BNSC to issue this prohibition order, which does not include the area of the Jharkhand High Court (Ranchi). According to the statement, during the prohibition period, gatherings of five or more people, as well as the carrying of any weapons or arms such as guns, rifles, revolvers, bombs, explosives, sticks, and bows and arrows, will be prohibited. Additionally, any form of protest, demonstration, procession, rally, or public meeting, along with the use of sound amplification devices, will also be banned.
