Fatal Attack During Jewelry Store Robbery

In a shocking incident in Modinagar, Ghaziabad, a jewelry seller was fatally stabbed during a robbery attempt. Authorities confirmed the details of the case.


According to Surendra Nath Tiwari, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural), the incident occurred on Thursday morning when a man entered the shop of 75-year-old Girdhari Lal Verma in the Govindpuri area with the intent to rob.


The official reported that when Verma resisted, the assailant stabbed him three times, resulting in his immediate death. Verma's 46-year-old son, Rupinder Verma, who resides on the first floor above the shop, rushed down upon hearing the commotion. During the struggle, he also sustained knife injuries, but with the assistance of a neighbor, he managed to subdue and apprehend the robber.


The police identified the suspect as Ankit, a local resident. Law enforcement arrived at the scene and took him into custody. During interrogation, he admitted to the robbery and confessed to stabbing Girdhari Lal when confronted. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.


Initially, the local traders' association announced a market shutdown in protest, but this was later called off after discussions with officials. The police are currently investigating the incident.
