Jewelry Heist in Jaipur: Thieves Pose as Father-Son Duo to Steal ₹10 Lakh
Intriguing Jewelry Scam in Jaipur
In Jaipur, a sophisticated scam has emerged where cunning criminals managed to defraud a jewelry businessman of approximately ₹10 lakh. The perpetrators, posing as a father and son, checked into a luxury hotel in the city to execute their plan.
Using social media, specifically Instagram, they selected their desired jewelry pieces and lured an employee of the jewelry store to the hotel. They initially claimed to pay ₹5 lakh in cash and another ₹5 lakh online. However, they cleverly manipulated the situation, leading the employee to trust them.
Within just four minutes, one of the suspects exited the hotel with the jewelry, while the other pretended to linger in front of the employee. Eventually, he concocted an excuse to leave, claiming he needed to grab a cup of tea.
Realizing the deception, the victim promptly reported the incident to the Sodala police station. Authorities are now utilizing CCTV footage from the hotel to identify and track down the culprits.
Details of the Deceptive Scheme
According to police reports, this jewelry scam is linked to Vinayak Jewelers located on MI Road. The suspects had previously browsed the store's Instagram page to select their preferred items.
They instructed the store employee, Mahesh Sharma, to deliver the chosen jewelry to their hotel room, assuring him of the payment arrangement. Upon arrival, they requested to show the jewelry to another person in a different room, which was a ruse to facilitate their escape.
One suspect, Atul Verma, took the jewelry and left the hotel within minutes, while his accomplice remained behind to avoid raising suspicion. The employee was unaware of the ongoing scam.
After the incident, police collected CCTV footage to analyze the suspects' movements within the hotel premises.
Investigation Progress
The police have gathered crucial leads regarding the suspects' identities. One of them had registered at the hotel using an Aadhaar card under the name Pradeep Verma, although the authenticity of this document is under scrutiny.
Both suspects claimed to be from Uttar Pradesh during their stay. Following the incident, police recovered clothing and the Aadhaar card they had submitted.
Investigators are currently verifying these documents to ascertain the true identities and addresses of the suspects. The police are actively pursuing leads based on the CCTV footage and other evidence collected from the hotel.
