Jemimah Rodrigues Shares Confidence in Team's Performance
Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues conveyed her positive outlook regarding the Women's team's chances in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Reflecting on their remarkable victory in the 50-over World Cup last year, she noted that various players consistently stepped up to support each other during challenging moments. Rodrigues made these remarks during a media event held in Mumbai.
Announcement of Women's T20 World Cup Squad
On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed a 15-member squad for the forthcoming Women's T20 World Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the team, with Smriti Mandhana serving as her deputy. During the press conference, Rodrigues emphasized the team's collective spirit, stating, "Every player is ready to embrace challenges for the team. If one player falters, it is up to the others to uplift the team, and that is a strength of ours. We will maintain this approach, just as we did in the World Cup. I believe our team will perform well in the T20 World Cup."
India's Ambitions for the T20 World Cup Title
Following their success in the 50-over World Cup, India aims to leverage this momentum as they pursue additional accolades at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, commencing on June 12. Kaur, who is captaining the team for the fifth time in this tournament, is determined to lead her squad to the prestigious title, having narrowly missed it in previous editions. The batting lineup will feature prominent players such as Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh, while the bowling duties will primarily fall to Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh.
Injury Updates and Group Stage Details
Kashvee Gautam and Amanjot Kaur are unavailable for selection due to injuries. India will commence their T20 World Cup journey on June 14 against Pakistan, competing in Group A alongside Australia, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, and South Africa.
Final Preparations and Squad Announcement
The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, chief selector Amita Sharma, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and head coach Amol Muzumdar unveiled the T20 World Cup squad. India will have another chance to refine their skills before the Women's World Cup by playing a three-match T20I series against England from May 28 to June 2. The selectors also announced the squad for a one-off Test against England, set to take place at Lord's.
