JDU's Unexpected Move Against MP Giridhari Yadav

In a surprising development, the Janata Dal (United), led by Nitish Kumar, has formally requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to disqualify its MP Giridhari Yadav. This notice, presented by the party's leader Dileshwar Kamat in the Lok Sabha, cites activities against party interests as the basis for the request. Although the exact reasons for this action remain unclear, reports suggest that tensions within the party escalated after Yadav's son contested the assembly elections on a ticket from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Allegations of Party Disciplinary Violations

The JDU has accused Yadav of breaching party discipline by actively supporting his son's election campaign. Yadav, who represents Banka in the lower house, was once considered close to the Chief Minister. However, his relationship with the party has soured following the assembly elections. Reports indicate that Yadav has publicly made statements that contradict the party's stance on several occasions.

Criticism of the Election Commission

Yadav has also criticized the Election Commission regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), labeling it as an arbitrary decree that has caused significant inconvenience to the public. In light of these statements made just before the assembly elections, the JDU has issued a show-cause notice to Yadav. Previously, in July 2025, the party had issued a similar notice following Yadav's comments about electronic voting machines (EVMs).

JDU's Stance on EVMs

The JDU maintains that it has consistently supported EVMs, whether as part of the India alliance or now as a member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The party asserts that Yadav's remarks have not only caused embarrassment but have also lent undue credibility to the "baseless and politically motivated allegations" made by the opposition.
