JD Vance's Upcoming Visit to India: What to Expect from the US Vice President's Grand Tour

Jaipur: The city is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to welcome United States Vice President James David (JD) Vance during his upcoming visit to India.

Vance is set to arrive on April 21 for a four-day itinerary.

He and his family will first land in Italy before heading to India on April 21. Following a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, he will proceed to Jaipur that evening.

Officials have confirmed that Vance will be in Jaipur from April 21 to 24. His schedule includes a visit to the historic Amer Palace on the morning of April 22, followed by a speech at the US-India Business Summit at the Rajasthan International Centre.

The summit is anticipated to attract high-ranking officials from both nations, where Vance will outline his vision for enhancing trade relations.

On April 23, he will fly to Agra via a US Air Force aircraft to see the Taj Mahal. After spending around three hours at this iconic site, he will return to Jaipur for a tour of the Jaipur City Palace later that day.

Vance is expected to depart for Washington, D.C., at 6:30 a.m. on April 24.

A grand red-carpet reception is planned for him at Jaipur Airport, with the Rajasthan government deploying personnel from various departments and implementing extensive security measures.

Temporary road closures may occur based on intelligence reports, and plainclothes officers from the Rajasthan Police will accompany Vance's security team.

A convoy of 20 vehicles will facilitate the VVIP's movements, along with a specialized ambulance staffed with senior medical professionals.

Emergency medical services have been arranged at selected hospitals. A traditional Rajasthani welcome is also in store for Vance and his family at Amer Palace on April 22.

The family will wear Jodhpuri safas and immerse themselves in the local culture through puppet shows, folk dances, traditional clothing, and regional cuisine.

During their two-and-a-half-hour visit, the palace will be closed to the public, and twelve trained guides will be on hand to provide historical context about Amer and Jaipur, ensuring dignitary interactions are appropriately managed.

Dr. Rakesh Chholak, the Superintendent of Amer Palace, confirmed that all arrangements, including security and renovations, have been finalized.

Sources indicate that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will greet Vance upon his arrival in Delhi. The meeting with Prime Minister Modi is set for April 21, with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Jaishankar also in attendance.

The Foreign Minister may join the US Vice President on his visit to Amer Palace the following day.

Later on April 22, after the Business Summit, Vance is expected to meet with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Governor Haribhau Bagade.

Accompanying Vice President Vance will be his wife Usha, their three children—Ivan, Vivek, and Mirabel—and senior officials from the US administration.

This visit marks the first time in 13 years that a US Vice President has traveled to India, the last being Joe Biden's trip in 2013.
