Criticism of Special Intensive Review in Bihar
In Bihar, the Janata Dal (United) MP Giridhari Yadav has faced criticism from his party regarding his stance on the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists. Fellow JD(U) MP Kaushalendra Kumar remarked that Yadav's opposition stems from his name being Giridhari Yadav. This response follows Yadav's strong objections to the Election Commission's handling of the SIR process in Bihar.
While addressing the issue in Delhi, Yadav expressed his discontent with the Election Commission's approach, claiming they lack practical knowledge of Bihar's history and geography. Speaking to a news outlet, he highlighted that the one-month deadline for document submission is unrealistic, sharing his personal experience of taking ten days to gather necessary documents.
Yadav also pointed out the challenges faced by migrant voters, including his own son residing in the United States, in meeting the signature requirements within the stipulated timeframe. He accused the Election Commission of implementing the SIR process without considering the ground realities and suggested that a minimum of six months should be allocated for this process.
He further criticized the Election Commission for its lack of practical understanding, stating, 'They are unaware of Bihar's history and geography. It took me ten days to collect all the documents. How can my son in America manage to sign within just a month? This SIR has been imposed on us without consideration. At least six months should have been provided for this... I am sharing my personal opinion; it doesn't matter what the party says... This is the truth. If I can't speak the truth, then why am I an MP?'
