Controversy Surrounds 'Sardar Ji 3'

The film 'Sardar Ji 3', featuring Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh, is currently embroiled in controversy. The primary reason for the backlash is the inclusion of Pakistani actress Hania Amir along with three other actors in the cast. Following the release of the film's trailer, public criticism surged, with some calling for a ban on the movie.

Renowned screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar has weighed in on the situation. Known for his candid opinions on pressing national issues, Akhtar recently addressed the ongoing debate regarding 'Sardar Ji 3'. He defended the filmmakers, asserting that they are not at fault in this scenario. However, it was clarified during the trailer launch that the film would not be released in India but would instead have an overseas release.

Javed Akhtar's Perspective

During a discussion on a media platform, Javed Akhtar expressed uncertainty about when the film was shot. The filmmakers claim that the shooting occurred before the April attack in Pahalgam. Akhtar remarked, "What can they do? The film was shot earlier, and they had no way of knowing what would happen. It's the Indian money that will be at stake, not the Pakistani money, so what's the benefit?"

Call for Release

He further suggested that had he known about the controversy beforehand, the filmmakers might have reconsidered casting a Pakistani actress. Akhtar believes that the government and the censor board should approach this situation with empathy, advising that while the film should be released, such decisions should not be repeated in the future. Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April, a complete ban on Pakistani artists was imposed, leading to public outcry against the film's casting.
