Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming, the captain of Japan, is looking forward to a momentous match against India scheduled for September 22 at the Sano International Ground. An estimated 2,000 to 3,000 fans are expected to travel from Tokyo and various parts of Japan, according to reports.

Kadowaki-Fleming expressed that the upcoming encounter feels 'surreal' and he is eagerly anticipating the event. He noted, 'We are expecting a significant turnout for this match. The Indian players are like celebrities, and I believe many cricket fans from Tokyo and across the nation will be present. This will require extensive security and logistical arrangements that we haven't encountered in Japan before. It's hard to fathom India playing a cricket match against Japan. I can't wait for it to happen,' he shared during an interview.

Facing India's Young Star with Confidence

The Japanese captain remains confident despite the presence of India's rising star, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He highlighted that Japan's 17-year-old left-arm spinner, Charlie Hara-Hinze, has previously dismissed Sooryavanshi at the Under-19 level. The 15-year-old Indian talent has gained attention for his bold batting style.

During the 2024 U19 Asia Cup in Sharjah, Charlie managed to get Sooryavanshi out after he scored 23 runs, which included three fours and a six. Kadowaki-Fleming reassured, 'Our young spinner has already taken him out before in an Asia Cup match, so we are prepared.'

Launch of 'Sport 75' Initiative

The match against India will mark the inaugural event of the 'Sport 75' initiative, which emerged from discussions between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This initiative aims to enhance exchanges and cooperation between Japan and India through sports.

Japan's Path in the Asian Games

Before their match against India, Japan will compete against Hong Kong in two T20 matches on September 19 and 20. Their Asian Games journey will commence with matches against Afghanistan on September 24 and Nepal on September 26. To progress to the quarter-finals, Japan must secure a top-two finish in their group.
