New Delhi, July 2: On Thursday, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi was warmly welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan as she commenced her official visit to India, coinciding with the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present to greet her during this ceremonial occasion.
The reception included a display of marching contingents from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, accompanied by a military band, honoring the visiting dignitary. Takaichi stood alongside Modi on the ceremonial platform throughout the event.
After the ceremony, Takaichi, together with Modi, met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other Union Cabinet members.
Several ministers welcomed the Japanese Prime Minister with folded hands, a gesture she reciprocated warmly, before the two leaders posed for photographs.
This marks Takaichi's first official visit to India, taking place from July 1 to 3, following an invitation from Prime Minister Modi.
Later that day, the two Prime Ministers are set to engage in bilateral discussions at Hyderabad House, where they will likely assess and enhance cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, defense, and regional security.
The summit is anticipated to facilitate discussions on significant regional and global issues, further solidifying the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
Takaichi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday and shared her arrival photos on X shortly after landing.
In a warm welcome, Prime Minister Modi expressed on social media, "A very warm welcome to India, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. We are delighted to host you on your first visit to India, and I look forward to our wide-ranging discussions that will further deepen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership."
He emphasized that both nations would continue to collaborate to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
Earlier, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal characterized the visit as a significant advancement in bilateral relations.
The ministry noted that the annual summit would allow both countries to review their cooperation comprehensively and explore avenues for further collaboration while discussing mutual regional and global interests.
