Journalist Hilal Mir Detained by Police

On Tuesday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended journalist Hilal Mir, accusing him of disseminating "anti-national content," according to reports from a local news outlet.

Mir was taken into custody by the police's counter-intelligence unit, which also confiscated his digital devices, including a mobile phone and a laptop, as reported by another news source.

The authorities labeled Mir as a "radical social media user," asserting that he had been sharing extremist and misleading information intended to disrupt public order and promote disaffection, while negatively portraying India.

They noted, "An initial examination of his digital devices indicated access to radical accounts, along with incriminating materials and other extremist propaganda."

With over twenty years of experience in journalism, Mir has contributed to various local and national media outlets and is currently affiliated with a business news website based in Dubai.

According to unnamed police officials, Mir is being held under preventive measures at Central Jail in Srinagar.

They further claimed that he had been actively involved in sharing content designed to provoke sentiments among youth and instigate secessionist feelings by depicting Kashmiris as victims of systemic extermination.

Additionally, the officers alleged that he had connections with suspected foreign numbers linked to dubious activities, suggesting he may have been receiving instructions from adversaries to disrupt peace in the Valley, which is currently under investigation.
