Jammu and Kashmir Man Sentenced to Five Years for Fraud in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In a significant ruling, a court in Jajpur district, Odisha, has sentenced Sayed Ishaan Bukhari, a 37-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir, to five years of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in a fraud case.
The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Chandikhole found Bukhari guilty after reviewing testimonies from 18 witnesses and analyzing 130 pieces of evidence, according to an official announcement.
On December 15, 2023, a Special Task Force (STF) team, in collaboration with local law enforcement, executed a raid in Neulpur, located under the Dharmashala police station in Jajpur district, leading to Bukhari's arrest.
He was accused of impersonating various professionals, including a neuro specialist, an army doctor, and an officer in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), as well as claiming to be associated with high-ranking officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), thereby deceiving numerous individuals.
During the investigation, authorities confiscated several forged documents, including a medical degree purportedly from Cornell University, certificates from the Canadian Health Services Institute, and credentials from Christian Medical College Vellore.
Additionally, police recovered a range of fraudulent materials, such as blank signed documents, affidavits, bonds, multiple identity cards, ATM cards, blank cheques, and Aadhaar cards.
