Substance-Free Jammu and Kashmir Initiative

The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, led a march on Tuesday in Budgam district as part of the ongoing 'Substance-Free Jammu and Kashmir Campaign.' This initiative aims to combat drug abuse within the Union Territory. The march saw participation from students, youth, civil society members, and district administration officials, showcasing a collective effort against the dangers of substance use.


 


While addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the significance of community-led initiatives in tackling drug abuse and urged the youth to steer clear of narcotics.


 


He reiterated the administration's commitment to taking stringent action against drug traffickers while also focusing on awareness campaigns and rehabilitation efforts. The event concluded with participants pledging to work towards creating a drug-free society. This march is part of a comprehensive 100-day campaign launched by the administration to raise public awareness about substance abuse in Jammu and Kashmir.


 


Earlier, on Monday, Sinha advocated for a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the era of drug trafficking gangs in the region has come to an end. He stressed the need for ensuring participation from every citizen, aiming for Jammu and Kashmir to become a model of sobriety for the entire nation. These remarks were made during the launch of a significant march under the 'Substance-Free Jammu and Kashmir Campaign.'


 


During the assembly, Sinha assured that the Jammu and Kashmir police, security agencies, and the administrative framework are working diligently, with public support, to eliminate drug traffickers. On April 11, 2026, the administration initiated a rapid 100-day campaign to achieve immediate and measurable impacts. The Lieutenant Governor and the Director General of Police (DGP) are overseeing this war against drugs, prioritizing the connection between drug trafficking and regional security.
