In Jammu and Kashmir, security agencies have reinforced their commitment to a 'zero tolerance' policy against drug trafficking and terrorism through simultaneous operations. A significant demolition drive targeting drug traffickers in Rajiv Nagar, Jammu, the arrest of associates of terrorists in Srinagar, and the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) seizure of assets belonging to a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist collectively illustrate a robust security strategy.
Today, a joint operation by the administration and Jammu and Kashmir police led to the destruction of several properties linked to drug traffickers in the Narwal area of Jammu. This region has long been recognized as a hub for illegal activities. The demolition efforts specifically targeted properties built with funds from the illicit drug trade or those encroaching on government land. Authorities reported that numerous properties associated with various accused individuals were razed during this operation. Conducted under heavy police presence, the initiative aimed not only to dismantle the drug network but also to send a strong message to the community.
Community Support for Anti-Drug Campaign
This operation is part of the 'Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir' campaign, actively promoted by the Lieutenant Governor's administration. Similar actions have previously taken place in areas like Belicharana. Local residents have welcomed this initiative, deeming it essential for enhancing safety in the region, while the administration emphasized that a stern warning has been issued to the mafias.
Arrests in Srinagar Targeting Terrorist Support Networks
On another front, security agencies achieved a significant breakthrough in Srinagar against terrorism. Police apprehended four individuals, including a woman, in the Hazratbal area, who were allegedly providing logistical and other support to terrorists. The arrested suspects include Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, and Shazia Mohammad. Authorities recovered a grenade, 15 AK-47 rounds, four mobile phones, and cash from their possession. They have been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act. This arrest indicates that security agencies are systematically dismantling the overground networks of terrorists.
NIA's Action Against Terror Financing
In a related effort, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken significant action by seizing properties belonging to terrorist Fayaz Ahmad Magray of Jaish-e-Mohammed. This action is linked to the 2017 fidayeen attack on the CRPF camp in Lethpora, which resulted in the martyrdom of five soldiers. The seized assets include land and residential complexes in the Lethpora area of Pulwama, deemed to be acquired through terrorism. This step was taken following a court order and aims to eliminate the financial roots of terrorism.
