Conclusion of the 4th IDCA Test National Cricket Championship

The 4th IDCA Test National Cricket Championship for the Deaf, organized by the Bengal Cricket Association of the Deaf (BCAD), wrapped up on Tuesday at Kolkata's Merlin Rise Cricket Ground. The Jammu and Kashmir Deaf cricket team emerged victorious, while the Delhi Deaf cricket team secured the second position.


Championship Overview

The Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA), with backing from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and recognized by the Deaf International Cricket Council and Asian Deaf Cricket Association, commenced the championship on December 18. Semifinal matches featured the Delhi Deaf team against Bengal Deaf and Odisha Deaf against Jammu and Kashmir Deaf, held at Kolkata's Merlin Rise Cricket Ground and Rajasthan Club Ground.


Grand Closing Ceremony

During a splendid closing ceremony, chief guest Andrew Fleming, the British Deputy High Commissioner for East and North East, along with notable guests including Boria Mazumdar, a senior sports journalist, and others, presented trophies to the champions and awardees. The Merlin Group sponsored individual cash awards for the winners.

In his address, Andrew Fleming emphasized that deaf cricket transcends mere competition, serving as a community and a testament to inclusion. He highlighted the importance of accessibility and opportunity for athletes who are deaf or hard of hearing, stating that the achievements of these athletes can inspire many others.

The nearly week-long Test series concluded on December 23, with the Jammu and Kashmir Deaf team defeating the Delhi Deaf team by 10 wickets. In the earlier innings, the Delhi Deaf team scored 212 runs in the first innings and 222 in the second, while Jammu and Kashmir scored 376 runs in the first and 60 in the second to clinch the title.


The IDCA 4th Test National Cricket Championship for the Deaf, held from December 18 to December 23, showcased some of India's most talented hearing-impaired cricketers from four states.

Sumit Jain, President of IDCA, remarked that the championship provided an excellent platform for players to showcase their skills in the longer format of the game.
