Jammu and Kashmir Constable Wins Gold at World Police and Fire Games
Benia Amin's Inspiring Journey to Gold
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 15: Benia Amin, a constable with the Jammu and Kashmir police, recently achieved a remarkable feat by winning a gold medal at the World Police and Fire Games held in the USA.
Amin, who is part of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Central Sports wrestling team, triumphed over a strong American opponent in the final match.
Reflecting on his journey after the victory, Amin, who hails from Basantgarh, shared, “When I departed from my village in 2005, I aspired to achieve greatness and participated in various local competitions in Udhampur and Jammu. I received immense support from my family, friends, and my department. Over the years, I earned 7-8 national medals before qualifying for this prestigious event. This journey required 20-25 years of hard work. The final match was incredibly challenging. While J&K is rich in talent, we face significant challenges due to inadequate infrastructure such as mats, training facilities, and platforms.”

CM Patel described this achievement as a significant milestone in establishing Ahmedabad as “the sporting capital of India.” He expressed pride in Gujarat's success, stating, “India has won the bid to host the 2029 World Police & Fire Games in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar & Ekta Nagar, following a detailed presentation to the WPFG Federation in Birmingham, USA. This victory reflects the visionary leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi and Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah, marking a big step towards making Ahmedabad the sporting capital of India!”
According to the official WPFG website, this event is an Olympic-style competition for athletes from law enforcement, firefighting, and correctional services worldwide. The games, held biennially, feature over 60 sports. The California Police Athletic Federation (CPAF), the Host City, and the WPFG Board of Directors govern the event. The inaugural competition took place in 1985 in San Jose, California.
