Jammu and Kashmir CM Highlights Need for Personal Bunkers Amid Increased Cross-Border Shelling

Rising Concerns Over Cross-Border Shelling
On Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah addressed the alarming situation following severe shelling from Pakistan across the border. This recent violence has resulted in significant damage to both lives and infrastructure, reigniting discussions about the necessity of bunkers in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir. During his visit to Uri in Baramulla district, Abdullah assessed the conditions in regions affected by the shelling and emphasized the urgent need for protective structures, which had previously seen a decline in demand but have now become critical due to the resurgence of violence.
Government's Commitment to Provide Personal Bunkers
Abdullah reaffirmed the government's dedication to supplying personal bunkers to residents in response to their requests. He stated, "Bunkers have once again become a topic of discussion. For many years, we did not require them, but now the demand has shifted from community bunkers to individual ones. We will ensure the availability of bunkers in all areas affected by shelling." He noted that similar conditions exist in Uri, Tangdhar, Rajouri, and Poonch, and assured that residents would receive compensation after assessing the damage.
Ongoing Assessment and Compensation Plans
The Chief Minister remarked, "The situation in Uri, Tangdhar, Rajouri, and Poonch is concerning. Our civilian areas have faced attacks lasting two to three days... It seems there was an attempt to involve more civilians. Currently, a ceasefire is in effect, and peace has returned to the border regions. We are striving to reach all affected areas and are evaluating the damages to provide appropriate compensation to the residents."
