Carragher's Premier League Selections Spark Debate

Jamie Carragher has shared his picks for the Premier League Team of the Season up to this point, with some surprising exclusions such as Liverpool's Hugo Ekitike, Chelsea's Moises Caicedo, and Arsenal's Jurrien Timber. The former Liverpool player made his selections during a live segment on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, igniting discussions among fans.

For the goalkeeper position, Carragher opted for Sunderland's Robin Roefs, who outperformed David Raya and Robert Sanchez, both of whom are in contention for the Golden Glove. Roefs has achieved six clean sheets in 17 appearances, significantly contributing to Sunderland's strong start in the Premier League.

In the right-back position, Carragher chose Crystal Palace's Daniel Munoz over Timber. Munoz's teammate, Marc Guehi, was paired with Arsenal's Gabriel in central defense, while Riccardo Calafiori was the clear choice for left-back. Sunderland's influence continued in midfield, where Granit Xhaka was selected alongside Declan Rice, with Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes taking the role of attacking midfielder, recognized for his steady performances this season.

Up front, Manchester City's Erling Haaland was the obvious choice as the sole striker, supported by AFC Bournemouth's Antonie Semenyo on the right and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers on the left, rounding out Carragher's lineup.

Discussing his midfield choices, Carragher acknowledged the challenge of excluding Caicedo. He highlighted Xhaka's significant impact at Sunderland and noted that Declan Rice narrowly surpassed the Chelsea player. "The decision to leave out Caicedo was tough. I wanted to include an attacking midfielder, which is why I chose Bruno Fernandes," Carragher explained.

He further elaborated, "I believe Declan Rice has a slight advantage over Caicedo. Xhaka's influence this season has been remarkable; he has been crucial for Sunderland, making his inclusion essential. I apologize to Chelsea supporters, but I couldn't accommodate Caicedo in my selections."
