Significant Meetings in Moscow
On Thursday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow as part of his three-day visit to Russia. During this trip, he co-chaired the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) and participated in the India-Russia Business Forum meeting.
Earlier that day, Jaishankar held discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The two officials evaluated their bilateral relationship and prepared for the upcoming annual summit scheduled for later this year. In a joint press conference, Jaishankar remarked on the enduring nature of India-Russia relations since World War II, highlighting the significance of energy cooperation through trade and investment, while clarifying that India is not the largest purchaser of Russian oil.
Jaishankar also shared insights from his meeting with Lavrov on his social media platform, detailing their comprehensive discussions on various topics, including trade, investment, energy, fertilizers, health, skills development, defense, and cultural exchanges. He noted that they exchanged perspectives on global issues such as Ukraine, Europe, Iran, West Asia, Afghanistan, and the Indian subcontinent. Furthermore, they discussed their collaboration in international forums like the UN, G20, SCO, and BRICS, which will aid in shaping the outcomes for the forthcoming Annual Summit.
