Sweet Shop Takes a Stand

In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, a sweet shop in Jaipur has made headlines by renaming several of its traditional confections. Tyohaar Sweets, known for its luxury handmade sweets, has removed the term 'Pak' from its products, opting instead for 'Shree.'

Traditionally, the suffix 'Pak' in iconic sweets like Mysore Pak refers to a sugary syrup known as 'pak' in Kannada, which means 'to cook' in Sanskrit. Despite these linguistic connections having no ties to Pakistan, the owner of Tyohaar Sweets, Anjali Jain, stated, 'We decided to drop it in the spirit of patriotism.'

Favorites that once satisfied sweet cravings, such as Moti Pak, Aam Pak, Gond Pak, and Mysore Pak, have now been rebranded as Moti Shree, Aam Shree, Gond Shree, and Mysore Shree.

Even the shop's premium offerings, Swarn Bhasm Pak and Chandi Bhasma Pak, have undergone a name change. A photo showcasing the new names on display has gone viral.

Earlier, a post from a user on X, 'Tathvam-asi,' sparked a discussion about whether Mysore Pak should be renamed, suggesting 'Mysore Bharat.' The post received mixed reactions, but few anticipated that a sweet shop would take such rebranding seriously.
