Jaipur Municipal Election Results: BJP Leads, Major Upset for Former Mayor

Counting Underway in Jaipur Municipal Elections

Jaipur. The counting of votes for the 150 wards of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation is currently in progress. The BJP is leading with victories in 68 seats, while the Congress has secured 48 seats and independent candidates have won 14. The BJP is now just 8 seats away from achieving a majority, indicating a strong possibility of forming the board.

Significant Defeat for BJP's Jyoti Khandelwal

In a notable upset for the BJP, former mayor Jyoti Khandelwal faced a significant defeat in Ward 110 against Congress candidate Sunita Methi, who is the wife of the previous councilor, Arvind Methi. Khandelwal did not win a single booth in this election. Meanwhile, BJP's Sunil Kothari emerged victorious in 112 wards and is considered a potential candidate for the mayoral position.

Record Victory for Congress Candidate

Congress candidate Faiz Hasan achieved victory in Ward 71, with independent candidates coming in second and BJP candidates in third. At just 21 years old, Hasan marks the entry of Generation Z into the municipal corporation. Additionally, Congress's Kanta Devi won Ward 124 by a narrow margin of just 5 votes, while Gajnafar Ali from Congress secured a remarkable victory in Ward 113 with 10,014 votes, leading to the forfeiture of the deposit for BJP candidate Fariduddin Jackie.

Results on Hold in Several Wards

Counting has been temporarily halted in Wards 25 and 47 due to issues with the EVM machines. Results for Wards 34 and 72 are also on hold. The counting is taking place at the pharmacy college in the Bhawani Niketan complex on Sikar Road, where 15 rooms have been reserved by the election office, equipped with 150 tables for the counting process, following the earlier tally of ballot papers.
