Dhankhar's Departure from Vice Presidential Residence

Jagdeep Dhankhar is set to vacate the Vice Presidential residence shortly. According to sources, the former Vice President began packing his belongings the night he submitted his resignation, although it was officially accepted only the following day. It has also been reported that several opposition leaders sought appointments to meet Dhankhar, but he was unable to accommodate these requests. Notably, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Sharad Pawar had also requested meetings with him yesterday but were unable to secure a time slot.

The 74-year-old Dhankhar took office in August 2022 and was expected to serve until 2027. He moved to the newly constructed Vice Presidential enclave on Church Road near the Parliament complex in April of last year. This enclave, which houses both the Vice President's residence and office, was developed as part of the Central Vista redevelopment project. After approximately 15 months of residence, he is now required to vacate the premises.

On Monday, Dhankhar cited health reasons for his resignation. However, the Congress party responded on Tuesday, suggesting that the true reasons behind his resignation are far more serious than the health issues he mentioned. His unexpected resignation has sparked widespread speculation about whether there are underlying factors beyond his stated health concerns. This sudden move came at the conclusion of surprising developments in the Rajya Sabha under his leadership, which left the government astonished and forced it into damage control.

After living in the Vice Presidential enclave for about 15 months, Dhankhar will need to leave. Officials indicated that he will be allocated a Type VIII bungalow in Lutyens' Delhi or another area. Type VIII bungalows are typically assigned to senior central ministers or heads of national parties.
