Jacob Duffy Gears Up for Exciting Clash with Virat Kohli in Upcoming ODI Series
Jacob Duffy Anticipates Showdown with Virat Kohli
New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy is eagerly awaiting his face-off against his Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) teammate, Virat Kohli, in the five-match ODI series commencing on November 4. Duffy believes that after sharing the dressing room with Kohli, the seasoned player will be well-prepared for the challenges of the 50-over format. The series promises to bring a festive atmosphere to Indian cricket, marking the return of two of the sport's icons, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. A significant highlight will be the duel between Duffy and Kohli, both of whom played pivotal roles in RCB's consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) victories this year.
Reflections on RCB Teammates and Their Work Ethic
In a recent media session in Auckland, Duffy shared his admiration for Kohli, stating, "I saw him in the gym yesterday, and it was great to run into him there. He was fantastic to me." He emphasized Kohli's remarkable work ethic and his humble demeanor, despite being a revered figure in a cricket-obsessed country. Duffy also reminisced about their practice sessions, where they often arrived early to hit the nets together.
"For someone of his stature in India, it's impressive how down-to-earth he is and how welcoming he has been to us overseas players at RCB. I truly appreciate that. Now that I've shared a changing room with him, it will be exciting to compete against him," Duffy remarked.
"Kohli's work ethic is commendable. I spent considerable time bowling to him in the nets since he was always the first batter, and I was the first bowler. This experience has allowed him to observe my bowling closely, which should aid his preparation," he added.
Understanding Indian Conditions
Duffy recalled his discussions with Kohli regarding Indian playing conditions and how these insights have been beneficial. "Certain pitches behave differently, and he shared valuable advice on the appropriate lines and lengths to bowl on those surfaces, as well as how he adapts. His insights have been crucial for me," Duffy noted.
This year, Kohli has amassed 552 runs in nine innings, averaging 69.00 with a strike rate of 117.94. His performance includes two centuries and three half-centuries, with a top score of 139 not out. In the recent ODI series against the West Indies, he scored 168 runs in three innings, highlighted by a remarkable 139 not out off 88 balls while chasing a target of 296. Kohli stands as the second-highest run-scorer in ODI history, with 15,109 runs at an average of 58.78, including 55 centuries and 79 half-centuries, with a highest score of 183.
