ISSO Hosts Successful North Region Under-9 and Under-11 Swimming and Athletics Championship

Championship Overview

The International Schools Sports Organisation (ISSO) recently held the North Region Under-9 and Under-11 Swimming and Athletics Championship at Pathways School in Gurgaon, attracting over 400 young athletes from prominent schools in the area.

Emphasis on Grassroots Development

This championship highlighted ISSO's commitment to grassroots development, particularly focusing on the Under-9 and Under-11 age groups. According to a press release, ISSO believes that early participation in structured competitions is vital for discovering and nurturing young talent, laying a solid foundation for future sporting success. These junior events aim to enhance athletic abilities while also instilling important life skills such as discipline, confidence, teamwork, and resilience from a young age.

Athletics Championship Results

In the athletics segment, The British School claimed the title of Overall Champion, with Pathways School Gurgaon finishing as the Overall Runner-up, and Strawberry Fields International School from Chandigarh taking the second runner-up spot.

Individual Athletics Champions

In individual events, Ziann Shiv Gambhir and Lieh Sharma from The British School were crowned champions in the Under-9 boys and girls categories, respectively. For the Under-11 boys, Aveer Singh (The British School) and Aryan Naman (Mayo College) shared the top honors, while Seima Ito (The British School) won the girls' title.

Swimming Championship Results

In swimming, The British School again emerged as the Overall Champion, with Pathways School Gurgaon as the Overall Runner-up and Prometheus School, Noida, securing the second runner-up position.

Individual Swimming Champions

Aahan Malik from Prometheus School, Noida, and Ziann Shiv Gambhir from The British School were the champions in the Under-9 boys category, while Sarah Dewan from Pathways School, Gurgaon, topped the Under-9 girls category. In the Under-11 category, Ayansh Bhagat from DPS International won the boys title, and Seima Ito from The British School took the girls' title.
