Israeli Public Opinion: Majority Believes Iran Emerged Victorious in Ongoing Conflict
Survey Reveals Israeli Sentiment on Iran Conflict
Despite Israel's relentless attacks on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon and claims from leaders like Netanyahu and Trump about diminishing Iran's military capabilities, a recent survey indicates that over 92% of Israelis believe Iran has triumphed in the ongoing conflict. Conducted by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in partnership with the Agam Institute from June 17 to 20, the poll involved 3,644 participants, primarily supporters of Netanyahu's right-wing coalition.
Notably, around 82.9% of respondents expressed the view that Israel's efforts against Iran have compromised the nation's long-term security. Furthermore, 86% criticized the interim agreement between the US and Iran, which excluded Israel, as a negative development stemming from the conflict. The survey also revealed that 87.8% of Israelis feel their country has not met the objectives that prompted the military offensive.
The initial goals of the conflict were reportedly to dismantle Iran's nuclear program, halt missile development, and instigate regime change. However, 72.5% of those surveyed disagreed with Netanyahu's assertion that Israel had made significant progress or mitigated an existential threat. Additionally, 56.4% rated Netanyahu's performance as 'poor' or 'failed', with only 26.5% considering it 'good' or 'excellent'.
In terms of US involvement, 69.1% of respondents deemed Trump's management of the war as a 'failure' or 'poor', while just 10.8% rated it positively.
Public Opinion on Israel's Operations in Lebanon
Regarding military actions in Lebanon, 48.2% of respondents believe Israel should persist with its operations against Hezbollah, even at the risk of jeopardizing the recently established Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Conversely, only 20.9% opposed further strikes.
Assessment of Netanyahu's Government Achievements
Only 12.2% of those surveyed felt that Israel had largely accomplished its objectives concerning Gaza, Hamas, Hezbollah, or Iran following the October 7, 2023 attack. A significant 61.3% believed that Israel had not achieved its goals at all, while 26.5% felt that some objectives were met.
