Ishan Kishan, the captain of the East Zone team, has expressed admiration for star bowler Mohammed Shami's remarkable intensity and energy as they approach the Duleep Trophy final. Kishan emphasized that age is merely a number, praising Shami's dedication, wicket-taking prowess, and impressive form. He noted that having a seasoned bowler like Shami significantly enhances the team's confidence. Kishan acknowledged the challenges Shami faces in maintaining motivation during domestic cricket, especially when he is not consistently selected for the Indian team. Nevertheless, he noted Shami's evident hunger and determination to return to the national squad. Kishan remarked, "It has been three years since the [2023] World Cup when he was in top form; it can be tough to keep that same level of motivation for domestic matches when not regularly playing for India. However, I can see that hunger in him, and who better than me to recognize that?"

He emphasized Shami's strong desire to make a comeback to the Indian team, highlighting Shami's readiness to support him as a senior player by providing advice and tactical insights while Kishan leads the team. Kishan concluded, "He has that hunger and motivation right now. He wants to return to the Indian squad, which is evident in how he approaches me with options and suggestions during the game."
