Ishan Kishan Emphasizes Mental Strength in SRH's IPL Victory
Kishan Highlights Mindset in T20 Cricket
Ishan Kishan, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), underscored the significance of mental fortitude and clarity in T20 cricket following his team's 47-run victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) during an IPL 2026 match on Tuesday night. In an interview on JioHotstar after the game, Kishan remarked that while players' skill levels may be comparable, the true differentiator is how they manage their mindset throughout the matches. He stated, "At this level, skill sets are quite similar. The real difference comes from mindset. It's about staying focused, hungry, and mentally present."
Overcoming Fear and Embracing Positivity
Kishan stressed the importance of not dwelling on failures, emphasizing that players must conquer their fears and maintain a positive outlook during high-pressure situations. He explained that experience helps players gain a better understanding of their game and avoid repeating past mistakes. "Staying focused, hungry, and mentally present is key. You can't carry the fear of failure; if that thought comes in, you have to overcome it and stay positive. Over time, that awareness grows, and you start understanding your game better. It's about learning from your experiences but making sure you don't repeat the same mistakes," he added.
Supporting Young Bowlers
Kishan also discussed his strategy for mentoring young bowlers in the team, highlighting the need for straightforward and encouraging communication. He mentioned young pacer Sakib Hussain, emphasizing the importance of keeping bowlers relaxed even after challenging overs. "My relationship with the bowlers is about keeping things simple and positive. With someone like Sakib Hussain, there's a natural understanding, and I've told him to stay relaxed. This is T20 cricket; everyone gets hit. What matters is how you come back. Even if an over doesn't go well, it's important to reset, stay calm, and focus on the next opportunity. If you can pull things back later in the game, that's what makes the difference. There's no point putting extra pressure on yourself; just trust your plans and execute them," Kishan explained.
SRH's Impressive Performance Against DC
In their IPL match in Hyderabad, SRH showcased a commanding all-round performance, defeating DC by 47 runs. Abhishek Sharma was the standout performer, scoring an impressive unbeaten 135 runs off 68 balls, including 10 sixes, leading his team to a formidable total of 242/2 after being asked to bat first. Heinrich Klaasen also contributed significantly with a quickfire 37 runs off just 13 balls. In response, DC managed a brief fightback with Nitish Rana scoring 57 and KL Rahul adding 37 runs, but they lost wickets at regular intervals, hindering their chase. The match's turning point came with Eshan Malinga's double strike, as he ended with figures of 4/32, while Harsh Dubey's late wickets sealed the innings for DC, who were ultimately bowled out, unable to match SRH's bowling prowess.
