Minister Addresses Privacy Concerns Over Sanchar Saathi App

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reassured the public that the Sanchar Saathi safety app will not enable any form of snooping, amidst ongoing debates regarding his ministry's directive for smartphone manufacturers to preload this state-sponsored cybersecurity application on all new devices.

During a session in the Lok Sabha, Scindia emphasized that the app is designed to enhance public safety.

He stated, "Snooping is neither feasible nor will it occur with the Sanchar Saathi app," during the Question Hour.

The minister further elaborated that the government's intention is to empower citizens, enabling them to safeguard themselves.

The directive issued on November 28 requires all mobile manufacturers to pre-install the Sanchar Saathi app on devices sold in India, as well as on existing phones via software updates.

It also stipulates that the app must be easily visible and accessible to users during the initial setup of their devices, with its features remaining fully operational.

On Tuesday, Scindia mentioned that users have the option to uninstall the app if they choose not to utilize it.
