Ceasefire Proposal Confirmed by White House

Washington: The White House has announced that Israel has agreed to a ceasefire proposal for a duration of 60 days, even as military operations continue in Gaza.

During a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, along with President Donald Trump, presented a ceasefire plan that has received Israel's endorsement.

"Israel approved this proposal prior to its submission to Hamas. I can also confirm that discussions are ongoing, and we are optimistic about achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, which would allow for the safe return of all hostages," Leavitt remarked.

She refrained from providing further comments, citing the sensitive nature of the ongoing negotiations.

According to an Israeli official and a US source familiar with the situation, the proposed agreement not only includes the 60-day ceasefire but also outlines the release of 10 living hostages and the remains of 18 deceased hostages, as reported by CBS News.

On Thursday, Hamas indicated that its leadership had received the new ceasefire proposal from Witkoff via mediators and is currently evaluating it.

"The Hamas leadership is responsibly reviewing Witkoff's new proposal in a manner that prioritizes the interests of our people, offers relief, and aims for a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip," Hamas stated in a brief announcement.
