Irfan Pathan Lauds Virat Kohli's Remarkable Fitness and Batting Prowess
Kohli Shines with Another Century
Irfan Pathan, the former Indian all-rounder, has commended Virat Kohli's exceptional fitness and concentration following the veteran batter's impressive 84th international century during the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur on Wednesday. The 37-year-old cricketer has been in phenomenal form, building on his previous performance in Ranchi where he scored a blistering 135 off 120 balls, featuring 11 fours and seven sixes. In Raipur, Kohli played a more measured innings, scoring 102 runs off 93 balls, including seven fours and two sixes.
Pathan Highlights Kohli's Athleticism
Pathan emphasized the significance of Kohli's fitness, stating, "At 37, his ability to score consecutive centuries is remarkable, evident in his celebratory jumps that reach about 9 meters. After starting with two ducks in Australia, he has rebounded with three innings of at least 50 runs, including back-to-back centuries. He adapted well to the pitch conditions in Raipur, beginning with a six but maintaining caution against deliveries outside off-stump," he shared on his YouTube channel.
Analyzing Kohli's Batting Technique
Pathan further analyzed Kohli's batting skills, noting his confidence against fast bowlers. He was particularly impressed by Kohli's six off Marco Jansen's short delivery, which showcased Kohli's remarkable timing and quick reflexes. "Kohli consistently steps out to fast bowlers, appearing to have ample time to play his shots. His ability to hit Jansen's short ball for six demonstrates a level of timing that many other players might not possess," Pathan remarked.
Kohli's Strategic Adaptability
Pathan also pointed out Kohli's strategic adaptability against South African bowlers. He observed that Kohli effectively waited for balls in his scoring zone, capitalizing on singles and doubles. "When the bowlers adjust their strategy, Kohli responds with his own. He has an answer for every South African tactic, whether facing an off-spinner or a left-arm spinner," Pathan added.
The Return of the Classic Kohli
Pathan concluded by stating, "Kohli's patience for well-pitched balls and his ability to take singles and doubles effectively indicate that the classic Virat Kohli has returned. His celebrations after scoring centuries and taking wickets reflect a rejuvenated spirit, which is a significant boost for India in ODIs."
