Irfan Pathan Commends KL Rahul's Strategy in ODI Victory Against New Zealand
Pathan Highlights Rahul's Tactical Batting
Irfan Pathan, a former Indian cricketer, has lauded KL Rahul for his intelligent batting style during the ODI match, noting that he is often misjudged when batting lower in the order. Pathan emphasized that after the 34th over, when the ball begins to reverse, a technically proficient batsman like Rahul can significantly impact the game.
Rahul's Masterful Chase
In the first ODI against New Zealand, Rahul once again demonstrated his batting prowess, leading India to victory. He expertly navigated a tense chase, finishing the match with two boundaries followed by a powerful six off debutant Kiwi bowler Kristian Clarke on the last ball of the 49th over.
Pathan noted that while other players faced challenges, Rahul maintained his composure, consistently taking singles and waiting for the opportune moment to attack.
"When KL Rahul is at the crease, many question his position in the batting order. However, it's essential to recognize that the dynamics change after the 34th over due to the ball's reverse swing. In scenarios where the ball doesn't reverse, it tends to be slower. A technically sound batsman can make a significant difference. Other players struggled during the first ODI, but Rahul remained in control. His strategy of taking singles was evident, and he successfully targeted the 49th over, concluding the game with two fours and a six," Pathan shared on his YouTube channel.
Praise for Harshit Rana's All-Round Performance
Pathan also commended Harshit Rana for his impactful performance in the first ODI, asserting that his selection is based on his undeniable talent.
"Harshit Rana's role was equally vital. His batting and bowling have shown that he deserves his place in the team. This innings was crucial for him. India could have faced difficulties without that 37-run partnership," he remarked.
Rana displayed his all-round capabilities against New Zealand, taking two wickets by dismissing openers Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls. With the bat, he contributed significantly under pressure, scoring 29 runs off 23 balls, which included two fours and a six. His timely performance alleviated pressure on Rahul and was instrumental in guiding India through a challenging phase of the chase.
